   duchess of Brittany, queen of France
   Born in Nantes, Anne of Brittany was duchess of Brittany (1488-1514) and queen of France. The daughter of Francis ii, the last duke of Brittany, whom she succeeded in 1488, she was engaged (1490) to the future Holy Roman Emperor Maximilian i, but finally married the king of France, charles v III (1491). Being widowed in 1498, she remarried in 1499 with louis xii, who had ended his marriage to jeanne of france. Anne had two daughters by this second marriage: claude of france, the future wife of Francis I, and renée of France, the future duchess of Ferrara.
